Sunday Bulletin Announcements

ON SALE TODAY! The youth are selling the ATTRACTIONS coupon books again this year through September 10. They will be on sale today before and after all three worship services in the church lobby. The cost is $20 per book. All proceeds will go toward Pilgrimage in November.  Thank you for supporting our youth.  If you have any questions, please contact Betsy Ferrell.

FALL STUDY REGISTRATION CLOSES TODAY: We will use the book Counterfeit Christianity as our basis for a 5-week study on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 beginning Thursday, August 24. The book is available to preview in the lobby today and the registration sheet is up on the clipboard wall. Books cost $14 each. When you register you can pick up a book and start reading!

  • The Sunday School teacher Lunch and Learn meeting is today at noon in Carson Hall. This is a very important meeting as we will be discussing changes for the upcoming fall classes. Please plan on attending.
  • CPR /AED Training immediately follows at 1:00 pm in Carson Hall.
  • Annual Safe Sanctuaries training for ALL people who volunteer with children, youth or vulnerable adults is at 3:00 pm in Carson Hall.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT: This month's Game Night sponsored by the Family Life Committee is this Friday, August 25, 6:00-8:30 pm in Carson Hall. Bring your favorite games along with a favorite snack, dish or drink to share. Lemonade and water will be provided. Enjoy some fun and fellowship with your church family!

EDUCATION EXTRAVAGANZA NEXT SUNDAY! Join us for worship on August 27 as we prepare for back-to-school! We will celebrate Promotion Sunday at 9:45, present Bibles to third graders and bless backpacks at all three services, and end our worship with Popsicles on the Playground at noon. Everyone is invited!

ARMENIA AGAPE CHRISTMAS BOXES DUE NEXT SUNDAY: Thanks to the generosity of our congregation, we had 80 boxes signed out, topping our 70-box goal! Please be sure you return your boxes by August 27. Contact Ed & Kay Smallwood with any questions or concerns.

BOOK CLUB SELECTION AVAILABLE IN LIBRARY NEXT SUNDAY: Fifteen copies of the I Am Malala, the next St. James Book Club selection, will be available for check-out from the Ann Bridgers Library starting on August 27. Look for them in the area near the computer, and follow the instructions on the check-out sheet as you obtain your copy. We hope to have a good discussion at the meeting scheduled for Sunday, October 1, at 2:30 pm. All interested readers are invited to participate.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE COUNCIL NEEDS YOU: Do you want to serve God and can't find your niche? Are you a "people person"? Would you like to make a difference in someone's make it more enjoyable and not so bring a smile to them and joy to their heart? The Congregational Care Council needs volunteers to visit and telephone homebound members. It takes only about an hour a month. Please contact Peggy Biggers for more information about this caring ministry. WE NEED YOU AND SO DO OUR HOMEBOUND!!!

BBQ NEWS! Remember, our 9th annual barbeque is coming on Friday, September 22 from 10:00AM to 7:00PM! How can you help? Help us advertise through your neighborhoods and workplaces: we have flyers that you may use. Buy as many tickets as you can (and sell them to neighbors, friends, family), sponsor a pork shoulder ($25 or less), make brownies, do pre-sales to be picked up or delivered, be a sponsor, and work the day of the event. This year we are also pre-selling quarts of barbecue for $12. If everyone helps this year, our goal will be reached! Questions? Talk to Sharon Johnson or with Steve Betts or Tim Johnson. Sign-up sheets are in the lobby. Please volunteer to help beforehand or on the day of! We need you!

CALLING ALL YOUTH! Pilgrimage 2017 is just 4 months away! If you would like to go this year, please sign up on the youth bulletin board. If you have any questions, please see Randy Kerr.

GARDEN HARVEST UPDATE: As of 8/9, 863 pounds of produce have been donated. At present Youth is ahead of UMM by less than 1/4 pound! At this time the garden is in need of plastic produce containers (like the kind used for strawberries and cherry tomatoes). If you have any of these please put them in the box in the lobby marked Garden. Thank you!
