SPECIAL UMCOR EMERGENCY OFFERING TODAY! The United Methodist Church is collecting money to help with flood relief in Texas through UMCOR. You may write donations to St. James UMC with UMCOR/Texas in the memo; there are special envelopes in the welcome books for you to use. 100% of the money will go directly to the people in Texas for food, water, and the things they need. Thank you for your support.

BOOK CLUB SELECTION AVAILABLE IN LIBRARY: Fifteen copies of I Am Malala, the next St. James Book Club selection, are really now available for check-out from the Ann Bridgers Library. Look for them in the area near the computer, and follow the instructions on the check-out sheet as you obtain your copy. We hope to have a good discussion at the meeting scheduled for Sunday, October 1, at 2:30 pm. All interested readers are invited to participate.

ALL 2ND-5TH GRADERS - BELL CHIME CHOIR STARTS TODAY! Everyone is invited to be a part of the Kids Bell Choir. Our first practice is 4:30-5:30 pm (right before Kids Club supper) in the Library. Parents, please plan to meet with us for 10 minutes when you bring your children.

KIDS CLUB & UMYF RETURN TONIGHT! Please come join us at 5:30 pm for a light supper before programming begins. Menus will be listed in the Worship Leadership section each week. Please contact Betsy Ferrell by Wednesday if your registered child or youth will NOT attend Sunday's supper.

KIDS CLUB TONIGHT! The first meeting of Kids Club is tonight! Please join us for game night! We are excited to start our year and hope to see you all there!

WANT TO HELP OUT? Kids Club is always looking for volunteers to help with the programs. If you would like to volunteer please let Amy Biggers or Kris Johnson know. We are also updating our nursery volunteer list for this year. If you would like to be added as a nursery volunteer please contact Kris Johnson to be put on the list.

BBQ NEWS! Remember, our 9th annual barbeque is coming on Friday, September 22 from 10:00AM to 7:00PM! How can you help? Help us advertise through your neighborhoods and workplaces: we have flyers that you may use. Buy as many tickets as you can (and sell them to neighbors, friends, family), sponsor a pork shoulder ($25 or less), make brownies, do pre-sales to be picked up or delivered, be a sponsor, and work the day of the event. This year we are also pre-selling quarts of barbecue for $12. If everyone helps this year, our goal will be reached! Questions? Talk to Sharon Johnson or with Steve Betts or Tim Johnson. Sign-up sheets are in the lobby. Please volunteer to help beforehand or on the day of! We need you!

CHURCH PICNIC: Everyone is invited to the annual Church Picnic, which will be held at St. James on September 30, 5:45-8:45 pm. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided for everyone. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. There will also be a family movie shown outside and campfire with s'mores (weather permitting). We will eat around 6:30, which gives us time before and after for fellowship. There will be games for the little ones and the big ones. Please sign up in the lobby to ensure we have enough food. Please join us for some great food, fun and fellowship!

FROM CHILDREN'S WEEKDAY MINISTRIES: St. James Preschool started this week! We are so excited to have our young friends back in the building! We are thrilled to have a lot of new faces this year in our classrooms.  If you have any children's CD's you would be willing to part with, the preschool would love to use them in the classrooms. Please let Kris know.

UPCOMING BIBLE STUDY: Why do we keep following the same patterns again and again - even when they're bad for us? We'll explore the answer in Crash Test Dummies, a 6-week study on the Book of Judges. This study will be on Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:00 pm, beginning October 5. Books cost $12 and are already available in the church office. Please register on the sign-up sheet in the lobby and pick up your book from Martha!
